We live and we construct who we are through the story that we have invented for ourselves. JE reveals the self-created dynamics of one person and the way the body remembers, how it re-inhabits and re-creates itself through sensation from moment to moment. Building on her own life experience as a person and an artist, as well as drawing from her past creations, Dominique Porte juxtaposes choreographic and musical language with writings, research notes and personal observations. Stemming from the desire to revisit her professional and personal past, JE is a biographical solo in which words and movements reveal the mind and surface in an urgent and visceral manner. A non-chronological game of construction and deconstruction, the piece brings to light the multiple facets of one person and presents a life journey in which the memory of the body and of the mind meet, where fiction and reality intertwine.

JE marks Dominique Porte’s return to the solo after eleven years. Through this life journey, JE invites the spectator to penetrate the intimate preliminaries of creation. Music used in previous work resurfaces and is an integral part of the piece - Isaac Hayes, Schubert, Bach, Nino Ferrer, composer Laurent Maslé, as well as a new piece specially written for this solo by Charles Papasoff.
