MARTIN MESSIER & CAROLINE LAURIN-BEAUCAGE

audio environment, shadow, to devour, sine wave, white

Two dressed bodies seek each other. They are drenched, exhausted and lost in a dark place. What happens after the initial shock? The idea here is to throw the spectator into a situation where disturbing events have just occurred, in a place that is pregnant with the feeling of emptiness.
The luminous and imposing audio environment serves as a canvas containing the space and the individuals inside it, making them prisoners. Soak’s world unfolds in the synchronic meeting of movement, sound and light.

MARTIN MESSIER & ANNE THÉRIAULT
Derrière le rideau, il fait peut-être nuit

imply, hearing fear, amplification, knife forest, help

Aiming to provoke insecurity and fear in the spectator and hurling him into a world inspired by the aesthetics of horror movies, the visual scheme of this performance is to suggest without revealing. To reach this goal, striking images are implied but evidence never emerges.
A composer of music for the living arts for many years, Martin Messier wanted to invert the usual hierarchic dynamics between choreographer and composer to put forth the audio environment. What drives this creation is the use of an amplification device that processes the movements and actions of dancer Anne Thériault.
All the decisions and ideas in this project were guided by the fact that priority must be given to sound. In this line of thought, the show unfolds in semi-darkness, encouraging the audience member to concentrate on audio events.
